The picture you’re looking at above was tweeted roughly 12 hours ago by @evleaks. He (or she) is the anonymous Twitter user that has consistently proven to be one of the most accurate sources of leaked information. The picture was published with text that reads: “Upcoming Samsung design language?”

What that means is that even @evleaks has no idea if the picture is right, but let’s examine it closely and speculate as to what it might actually be. Last year, before the GS3 was announced, several images hit the internet that showed off a phone with extremely hard angles. Turns out those pictures were of a GS3 enclosed in a plastic case meant to hide the final design of the product.

If I had to guess as to what’s in the photo above, I’m going to say it’s a future Samsung device that has a bit of extra plastic included in order to look inconspicuous and purposefully boring. Note that there is a headphone jack located at the bottom right of the device, which would be a first for any Samsung device as far as I’m aware.

When will we actually see Samsung’s future design language? I’m 100% positive we’ll see it next year with the introduction of the Galaxy S5, but the real question is whether or not we’ll see it beforehand. Rumor has it that the HTC One scared Samsung, and so they’re going to make the Note III special. If true, the Note III will likely be announced at IFA Berlin, which takes place during the first week of September.
