According to a slide on Samsung Display Korea, note that this is live and not a leak or anything crazy like that, the company is working on 5 inch and 5.5 inch 720p OLED displays. If those dimensions sound familiar to you, it’s because those are the screen sizes of the GS4 and the Galaxy Note II.

Now I don’t want to assume that Samsung is going to release yet another variant of the GS4 (sorry for the headline), but it’s obvious that these two displays are meant for devices that are going to be more affordable. As for whether or not there’s a difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen, that really depends on your eyes.

Personally, I can tell the difference, but to me it’s not worth selling my Galaxy Note II and potentially picking up the Galaxy Note III, which we all know is going to have a 1080p display. My next phone will likely be one that can do sub-500 ms in SunSpider.

Update: Wow, talk about mistake. Duh, yes the Note II already uses a 5.5 inch 720p display. This still doesn’t make this article useless, however, where’s that 5 inch 720p display going to be used?
