Samsung already has a handful of 2K tablets in the market with the first of them arriving last year in the form of the 2014 edition Galaxy Note 10.1. We then saw the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the trio of Galaxy Tab Pro devices as well, all with 2K displays. And now, the manufacturer has just shown off a 4K display tablet in accordance with Qualcomm during an event held in Paris at the ongoing French Open tennis grand slam.
This is a prototype unit and packs a 12 inch display, so it’s the same size as the 12.2 inch Galaxy Tab Pro and the Note Pro. But any excitement would be premature as it’s not hitting the markets anytime soon. The tablet was demoed with a bunch of French Open related features highlighting its display credentials. It is said that the device is running the Snapdragon 801 chipset inside, so it’s pretty much on par with current gen hardware.
There’s no telling as to when this tablet could land in the markets, but Qualcomm claims that 4K tablets should arrive before the end of 2014, which is good news for the customers.
Samsung is holding an event next week to announce a couple of AMOLED tablets, but it’s unlikely we’ll see this 4K tablet during the announcement. But we’ll keep an eye out for this particular tablet and keep you updated with any new details we get.
[Via TechRadar]Update: The Samsung 12-inch tablet was actually presented by Orange during their LTE broadcast demo during the French Open at Roland Garros, not by Qualcomm.
