Months before the Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched, it was widely believed that the company was prepping the flagship with a 2K resolution display. But those rumors never materialized as Samsung went on to launch the Galaxy S5 with a 1080p resolution display instead. However, a new benchmark listing on GFXBench has yet again revealed the 2K display variant, hinting that the company is currently testing one of these in its research labs.

Supply chain sources have suggested that Samsung was facing manufacturing delays with the 2K display, which explains why it went with the conventional 1080p Super AMOLED panel. So does this new revelation mean Samsung has sorted out those issues? Certainly not, but given the fact such a variant has made its way to benchmarks is enough indication that Samsung has something big planned for the future.

Maybe this will be an experimental project like the Galaxy Round was last year, considering that it already has the Galaxy S5 as its flagship product. We’ll keep a keen eye on this handset and keep you updated with any information we get.
