Samsung’s first Galaxy Note made a lot of people laugh. What kind of sane person would buy this thing, many people said. I was one of those harsh armchair analysts. The second Note (pictured above), however, turned heads. And I event spent my own money on one back in January of this year. So what’s next? Every knows Samsung is going to hold a press conference on September 4th in Berlin. Invites have already been sent out. Considering both Notes were announced during the same exhibition, IFA, it’s pretty much guaranteed that we’ll get a new Note there.
What kind of internals will it have? There have been so many crazy rumors flying around, many of them conflicting with each, but today SamMobile has spoken. When they share information from their “trusted insiders”, it’s true. And with that, here you go: 5.68 inch 1080p AMOLED display, 1.8GHz Exynos 5420 (octo-core) chip, 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean installed out of the box, and finally, a 3,200 mAh battery.
Now those of you in North America and my fellow Europeans will likely get the variant powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800. The rest of the chips will be the same, but the heart will be from San Jose instead of South Korea.
How should you feel about the specs? I’m a little disappointed since it’s only a tiny bit larger. I’ve been using the Mega 6.3 for almost three weeks now, and I would’ve liked to see a 5.9 inch Note, but sadly I’ll have to wait for Q3 2014 for that. Maybe. The Note III is reportedly the same physical size as the Note II, which is fine, and we all know it’ll look like the Galaxy S4, so no surprises there.
Here’s hoping Samsung figures out a “one more thing” to show us.
