During the weekend, an Italian journalist by the name of Flavio Pic sent out a tweet saying Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be announced in London and an event due to take place in mid-March. Flavio says he’s received this information from a “trusted source”, but honestly, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to come up with the same prediction.

Let’s break this rumor down, piece by piece.

First, the device in question, the Galaxy S5. Does it deserve a dedicated event? Absolutely. The Galaxy S3 had its own event, as did the S4, so why would the S5 be any different?

Second, the date, mid-March. Last week, Samsung’s VP of Mobile told Bloomberg that the Galaxy S5 would be out by April. That means the phone has to be announced before then. January is too full of CES news. February is too full of MWC news. So what month is available that gives Samsung all the attention they could want? March.

Third, the location. The Galaxy S3 was announced in London. The Galaxy S4 was announced in New York. Assuming there’s a tick-tock strategy going on, then that means that Galaxy S5 will be announced in London as well. That’s not to say that Samsung doesn’t love the United States, it’s just that Americans who want premium smartphones tend to prefer iOS over Android. You have to remember, sure Android has 80% market share if you look at it globally, but if you focus on just the United States, that number drops down to 52%.

Anyway, in two months you’ll know everything there is to know about the GS5. Sit back and enjoy the ridiculous rumors and “leaks” that will come out between now and then.
