Chromebooks are devices that are highly polarizing, and for good reason too. Some think that they’re useless because they’re nothing more than a glorified browser. Others, myself included, think they’re the best thing in the world because all anyone really needs these days is a web browser. And you can’t really argue with the price, either, since they’re often $299 or below. But say you don’t want an Acer or Samsung or HP Chromebook, what do you do? According to DigiTimes, you wait until the early part of next year.
The Taiwanese supply chain website says that both ASUS and Toshiba are going to enter the Chromebook market with Intel powered devices “really soon”. ASUS in particular has two models planned, one with an 11.6 inch display, and another with a larger 13.3 inch display. Specs are light, but I doubt you’ll have your socks blown off, Chromebooks were never speed demons.
Should you buy a Chromebook or should you buy a tablet? That really depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you already have a computer and want something to use while on the go for doing basic tasks such as social networking and email, then the tablet is probably a better bet. If on the other hand you have a child you’re sending off to college or your computer is starting to act up, pony up the extra few dollars to buy a Chromebook.
Not updating Windows every Tuesday will make you happy. Trust me.
