Earlier this month in an unprecedented move, Samsung announced a voluntary recall of all the 2.5m million Galaxy Note 7 units it has sold so far due to a faulty battery. In the US, the company first announced a voluntary recall but once things got serious, it worked with the CPSC to announce a formal recall late this week.
Despite Samsung’s best efforts to inform users about this recall, many customers have been hesitant in returning their phone back to Samsung since the company is not offering instant replacements. Instead, in its formal recall announcement, the company said that replacement Note 7 units will start arriving by September 21st.
While the quoted date from Samsung is still a few days away, it looks like replacement Note 7 units have made their way to some retailers and carrier stores. A handful of Note 7 owners have received their replacement units from Best Buy ahead of the quoted September 21st date from the Korean company.
If you have not heard back from your Best Buy store yet on your replacement Note 7 unit, now would be a good time to call them since they are handing out replacement units to customers on a first come, first serve basis. Interestingly, the replacement units do not have a green battery icon contrary to what previous reports had suggested.
Have you received your replacement Galaxy Note 7 unit yet?
