At an event in China, Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. The Redmi Note series has been among Xiaomi’s most successful smartphone series and with the Redmi Note 8, the company is once again raising the bar for mid-range devices.

    Like the Redmi Note 7 series, the Redmi Note 8 series comprises of the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Both phones feature a quad-camera setup at the rear, with the Redmi Note 8 Pro being the more powerful and capable of the two devices here. They both feature Gorilla Glass panels at the front and rear and a gradient back which gives them a very premium look and feel. The phones run on MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie.

    The Redmi Note 8 features a 6.3-inch FHD+ LCD display with a dewdrop notch. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 665 chipset, 4/6GB RAM, up to 128GB storage, and a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. It packs a USB-C port, headphone jack, IR blaster, and a fingerprint scanner that is located at the rear.

    The quad-camera system at the rear includes a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle shooter, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera at the front is a 13MP one.

    The Redmi Note 8 pricing starts from CNY 1,199 in China and goes up to CNY 1,399.

    The Redmi Note 8 Pro features a 6.53-inch LCD display with FHD+ resolution. The display is surrounded by smaller bezels when compared to the Redmi Note 8. The handset is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G90T chipset making it the first smartphone to be powered by this chip. For improved thermal performance, the Note 8 Pro has a liquid cooling chamber.

    The quad-camera system of the Redmi Note 8 Pro includes a 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera has been upgraded to a 20MP one. The phone comes with a bigger 4,500mAh battery with 18W quick charging support. Other specs of the Redmi Note 8 Pro remain the same as the non-Pro model. The phone will be available with 6GB RAM and 64GB of UFS storage and will go all the way up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

    The Redmi Note 8 Pro is priced at CNY 1,399 and goes up to CNY 1,799.
