Redmi Note 5 Pro

The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro will go on sale in India from next week. The budget mid-range handsets from Xiaomi are all set to rule the sub-15k smartphone market in India thanks to the insane price-to-performance ratio they offer.

The Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro pack a beefy 4000mAh battery along with other top-notch internals. This ensures that despite heavy use, the handsets are capable of lasting a day of heavy use on full charge. One common question that every potential Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro has in their mind is surrounding quick/fast charge. The lack of any kind of fast charging on the Redmi Note 4 was a bummer and many customers are wondering if Xiaomi has rectified this drawback this time around or not. Do the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro come with quick charging?

With a massive 4000mAh battery, it is kind of important that the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro feature some kind of fast charging technology. Otherwise, the time to charge the phones from 0-100 percent will be extremely long. The Snapdragon 625 chipset inside the Redmi Note 5 and the Snapdragon 636 inside the Redmi Note 5 Pro do feature support for quick charging so it is up to Xiaomi to use a compatible PWM and other components to take advantage of it. And Xiaomi has taken advantage of it, though the implementation is still going to disappoint many.

While the Redmi Note 5 does not support Quick Charge of any kind, the Redmi Note 5 Pro supports Quick Charge 2.0. However, since the handset does not come bundled with a compatible charger, you will have to buy one yourself to take advantage of the slightly faster charging speeds. You are not going to notice much difference in charging speeds with a compatible QC 2.0 charger since Xiaomi already bundles a 2A charger with the handset.

Are you disappointed that Xiaomi did not get around to adding support for Quick Charge 3.0 on the Redmi Note 5 Pro? And decided to completely omit the feature from the Redmi Note 5? Drop a comment and let us know!
