Last week, Xiaomi finally started rolling out the MIUI 9.5 update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Apart from bringing the May security patch, the latest version of Android and the improvement it brings, MIUI 9.5 also comes with its own share of enhancements and improvements.

Among other things, MIUI 9.5 introduces Full Screen gestures to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. With Apple jumping on the navigation gestures bandwagon last year with the iPhone X, every Android OEM has also rolled out software updates to add similar functionality to its device.

Xiaomi is also adding navigation gestures to its devices with an 18:9 aspect ratio display with the MIUI 9.5 update. Navigation gestures replace the standard navigation bar thereby making full use of the screen for displaying content. How to Enable Full Screen Gestures on Redmi Note 5 Pro in MIUI 9.5

Step 1: On your Redmi Note 5/Pro, head over to Settings -> Full Screen display.

Step 2: You will find the option to switch between the navigation buttons and Full screen gestures here. Switch to the latter after which you will be taken through a tutorial detailing how the gestures work.

Below are all the gestures that are available on the Redmi Note 5 Pro/MIUI 9.5 with Full Screen Gestures enabled.

  • Go home: To go back home, swipe up from the bottom of the display
  • Open Recent Apps: To open the Recent apps list, swipe up from the bottom of the display and hold your finger on the display for a second and then lift
  • Go back: To go back, simply swipe up from the left or right edge of the screen

Apart from the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the above steps are also valid for all Xiaomi devices running MIUI 9.5 and featuring an 18:9 or 19:9 aspect ratio display.
