Xiaomi today launched its cheapest handset till date in India: the Redmi 5A. With a starting price tag of Rs 4,999, the Redmi 5A is meant for the lower end of the budget smartphone segment in India.

Xiaomi is heavily promoting the Redmi 5A as a smartphone designed for India. Like with other Xiaomi smartphones launched recently in India, the Redmi 5A will also be assembled in India. Xiaomi is targeting the handset for first-time smartphone owners who are looking to upgrade from a feature phone.

The Redmi 5A comes with a metallic matte finish, and it will be available in colors: Dark Grey, Rose gold and Gold.

Redmi 5A Specs

The Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch 72op IPS display at the front. It also features a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor, Adreno 308 GPU, 2/3GB RAM, and 16/32GB of storage. The 5A also features a dedicated microSD card slot along with dual-SIM slots. At the front, there is a 5MP f/2.0 selfie shooter while the rear of the phone houses a 13MP f/2.2 aperture camera with LED flash.

Out of the box, the phone runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The 3000mAh battery inside the Redmi 5A is good enough to provide the phone with up to 8 days of standby time and a day of heavy use.

Redmi 5A Price

The 2GB RAM/16GB variant of the Redmi 5A will be available at a special introductory pricing of Rs 4,999. This introductory pricing is available for only the first 5 million units of the handset sold by Xiaomi. The 3GB RAM/32GB variant of the 5A is priced at Rs 6,999.

The Redmi 5A will go on sale in India from December 7 on Flipkart and Mi.com. It will also make its way to Xiaomi’s offline Mi Preferred Partner stores in the coming weeks.
