In addition to three new chipsets for smartphones, Qualcomm also announced a new processor for wearables: the Snapdragon Wear 2100. The chipset is smaller than its predecessor while being more power efficient, thereby ensuring that next generation smart watches are smaller than their predecessor and also last longer.
Qualcomm says that its Snapdragon 2100 is 30 percent smaller than its previous generation wearable processors that will allow OEMs to design thinner and sleeker wearables based on it. The chipset also features an ultra-low power sensor hub with improved accuracy. Lastly, the chipset uses 25 percent less power than Qualcomm’s previous offerings that will help in extending the battery life of upcoming wearables.
Qualcomm will be offering the Snapdragon 2100 is two different variants: tethered and connected. The former variant will only feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, while the latter will also feature an LTE modem.
Qualcomm did not provide any timeline as to when wearables using its new Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset will start making their way to the market, though it did mention that “numerous wearables” are already in development from various OEMs.
