Qualcomm today unveiled the Snapdragon 675, a premium mid-range chipset for upcoming premium mid-range smartphones, at its 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The chip will succeed the Snapdragon 670 launched earlier this year which has so far not made an appearance inside any Android device.
Qualcomm has focused on three aspects with the Snapdragon 675: gaming, triple cameras, and AI. Built on the 11nm LPP process, the Snapdragon 675 features Qualcomm’s 4th gen 4x Kryo CPU running at 2GHz. This is paired with an X12 modem capable of Cat. 12 LTE(600Mbps) speeds, a 2nd generation Spectra ISP, and Quick Charge 4+ support. It also has Qualcomm’s third generation AI engine to speed up AI-based tasks.
In terms of performance improvements, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 675 is able to launch games 30 percent faster and offer up to 35 percent faster web browsing experience. The Adreon 612 GPU has also been optimized to deliver the best gaming performance possible, with popular titles like King of Honor running at 60fps.
The Spectra ISP 250L of the Snapdragon 675 chipset supports triple camera setup thereby allowing for premium mid-range to features telephoto, wide angle, and a super wide-angle lens like Huawei’s flagship Mate 20 Pro.
The multi-core AI engine on the Snapdragon 675 is capable of delivering 50 percent improvement in AI applications. It also supports face unlock, scene and object detection, and more.
Qualcomm expects the first Snapdragon 675 chipset devices to show up in Q1 2019.
