Qualcomm today announced its latest innovation in the camera field: Qualcomm Clear Sight. Powered by their Spectra ISP, which is found in its Snapdragon 820 and 821 chipset, Clear Sight will help in improving the dynamic range, sharpness of your photos whilst reducing noise in low light.

Clear Sight in a single hardware module that features two camera sensors. Both sensors are identical to each other, except that one of them has its color filter removed so it can only capture images in black and white. This allows the sensor to absorb up to 3x more light. Then photos from both camera sensors are merged into one that leads to them having much better contrast, less noise, and improved sharpness.

If all the above sounds very familiar to you that is because we have seen Huawei implement something similar on the P8 and Honor 8. Those handsets are powered by the company’s own Kirin chipset and feature dual 12MP shooters at their rear, with the secondary sensor capable of capturing photos only in black and white.

Qualcomm notes that Clear Sight is available on its premium Snapdragon 820 and 821 chipsets as a part of its Spectra ISP, but fails to mention when we will see the first devices hit the market making use of this technology. It is likely that we will see OEMs launch devices with Clear Sight technology in use at CES next year.
