Qualcomm Quick Charge

Qualcomm has today posted a video showing how Quick Charge 2.0 helps in greatly reducing the charging time of latest Android devices.

The company has used three Nexus 6 units in the video, but is charging them with three different chargers: 50v/1A, 50v/2A, and a Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger.

After 40 mins of charging, the Nexus 6 being charged with 1A charger had 22% charge, while the one being charged with a 2A charger had 32% charge. The Nexus 6 unit being charged with a Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger, however, was substantially ahead of them with 50% charge.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology is already available in nearly all the major smartphones released over the last few months, including the Moto X and the HTC One M8.

While Samsung devices don’t support Quick Charge 2.0, they do with the company’s own Fast Charging technology, which provides similar benefits.

Until and unless battery technology improves dramatically, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology is the only way to counteract the ever increasing battery size of Android devices.
