Last week, it was revealed that Google is making it mandatory for developers to display their home address on their Google Play app listing page. While this move was not appreciated by most developers, many hoped that they could get away by putting up their PO boxes number instead of their home or office address.
The bad news is that it looks very likely that Google wants developers to enter their real home or office address, and not their PO box numbers.
Apparently, the reason behind this move from Google is because of a new directive from the EU Consumer Protection Law. Under the EU directive, business sellers who sell items over the Internet to consumers are required to provide details about their business, their contact numbers and other important details necessary to complete the transaction.
The law is applicable to all business sellers who sell their products to any consumers residing in the EU, irrespective of the location from where they are operating their own business. You can find more details about this new directive from EU here.
Microsoft and Apple have not enforced any such rule as of yet, and apparently, work around it by acting as a seller themselves rather than an intermediary like Google.
