Steve Jobs famously said that small tablets were a dumb idea. The man was rarely wrong, but on this occasion he was. Whether you’re talking about the Nexus 7 or the iPad mini, it appears that people prefer buying lighter and cheaper devices than shelling out the extra money for the added bulk. Now I know what I’m about to say may sound a bit crazy, but I think even 7 inches is too big.

Case in point, the website Ring Hong Kong recently decided to do a photo shoot staring the 2013 Nexus 7 and Sony’s 6.44 inch Xperia Tablet Z. Not only does the Z look more comfortable to hold, but it’s more powerful to boot, that and it’s also more pocketable.

Product positioning is dictated by marketing, and I’m almost 100% positive that Samsung’s Galaxy Mega device would be far more popular if they were pitched as “micro-tablets” instead of obscenely large smartphones.

While I’m hesitant to say which exact dimension between 6 inches and 7 inches is the ideal size, I just have a feeling that the perfect device form factor lies somewhere in that range.
