Remember the Panasonic Lumix CM1 with its gigantic 1-inch 20MP rear camera sensor? Well, for some reason Panasonic has now released a new variant of the smartphone dubbed DMC-CM10. The handset features almost the same design as its predecessor, except that the rear of the phone is now completely black.
The biggest change, however, is that the CM10 is now less of a phone and more of a smart camera. While the device still features a microSIM card slot that can be used for 4G connectivity, it is not possible to make calls using it. There is also dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS and Bluetooth, which can be used to geo-tag your photos and quickly share it on your favorite social media service.
Under the hood, the CM10 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a microSD card slot. The front of the device houses a 4.7-inch Full HD display. Out of the box, the CM10 now runs on Lollipop.
The rear camera setup of the CM10 remains the same as its predecessor. This means that you still get a staggering 1-inch CMOS sensor with 20.1MP resolution that is paired with a 28mm f/2.8 Leica lens.
Panasonic will start selling the CM10 in Japan from February 25 for 100,000 yen (~780 Euros). The handset will be made in limited quantities and Panasonic has no plans to bring the CM10 to other markets of the world currently.
