The Panasonic-branded CM1, an Android phone with a ridiculous camera on the back, was unveiled in September 2014, and now it’s been confirmed that the device is indeed launching in the U.S. at some point in the future.
When the device was first announced, a U.S. launch was still undetermined. However, apparently the people in charge of these types of decisions have indeed determined that bringing the ridiculous camera to the United States is a good idea. Which means those who are wanting an Android-powered smartphone with a gigantic focus on the camera have something to look forward to.
As far as features go, the camera itself is a 20-megapixel shooter with a 1-inch sensor, and a f/2.8 Leica lens. It can also capture 4K video, for those who are into that sort of thing. The camera itself is worth the attention for the device, but then Panasonic went ahead and included a 4.7-inch 1080p HD display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor under the hood, with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and a 2600mAh battery. The CM1 is running Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box. It also features a microSD card slot for good measure.
As far as a specific release date goes, that’s still missing. However, Panasonic was at least nice enough to include a price tag: $1,000. Is anyone planning on forking over the cash for the CM1?
