Besides the N3, Oppo also unveiled the world’s slimmest phone at its event in Singapore — the Oppo R5. The 4.85mm thick (or thin) smartphone is also the company’s first phone to use a 64-bit processor.
Oppo has also laid special emphasis on the build quality of the R5. The frame of the handset is made of 3D wielded aluminium alloy with hand polished edges. For a better heat dissipation, Oppo has used a phase-detecting material inside the R5.
Internally, this 4.85mm thin handset packs a Snapdragon 615 chip, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage space, 5MP front facing, 13MP rear camera with F/2.0 aperture and 2000mAh. Thanks to its slim profile, the R5 does not come with a 3.5mm audio jack. To make up for it, Oppo will be bundling a microUSB adapter with the handset.
Software wise, the Oppo R5 runs on Color OS 2.0, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The latest version of Color OS comes with a number of new features including a Gesture panel, updated camera app and more. Like the Find 7 and Oppo N3, the R5 also supports VOOC rapid charging technology.
The handset will retail for $499 and will be available in Silver, Gold and Grey colors.
