After successfully launching the Oppo R9 earlier this month, the company has now announced that the bigger brother, the R9 Plus, will be available starting June 2nd in Singapore. The device is launching in conjuncture with the annual PC Show and will retail at all Oppo concept stores as well as Singapore’s three telcos, M1, StarHub and SingTel.

Just a week ago, Android Beat, concluded an extensive review of the Oppo R9 and though the new phone comes with the Plus moniker attached to the name, it is in essence a very different device and not just a larger size.

The R9 Plus trades in the MediaTek MT6755 processor for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 and though the RAM remains the same at 4GB, the internal storage has the option of 128GB instead of just a 64GB variant.

On the external side of things, the rear camera has had a make-over and is now a 16MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0, specs which it now shares with the front camera. The AMOLED display is also bigger at 6.0 inches as opposed to 5.5 and all this additional space has given the device a larger 4100mAh battery. The R9 Plus still retains its dual–SIM–cum–memory–card functionality so essentially the storage can be expanded even further.

The phone still retains its fast charge technology with the usage of Oppo’s own VOOC Flash Charge technology incorporated into the adapter and it still runs ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The Oppo R9 Plus is available from 2nd June at all StarHub, Singtel and M1 stores along with Oppo concept stores and the Oppo Online store. It retails for S$769 (USD 560) for the 64GB variant, while the bigger capacity 128GB retails at S$849 (USD 615).

We suggest you head to the PC show if you plan to purchase the device as it is known to include freebies and exclusives.
