Earlier this month, Oppo teased about a new Android phone with superlative camera performance in low-light mode. Today, just a day before Christmas, the Chinese OEM has officially unveiled its new handset — the Oppo R1. The R1 is not a high-end handset, but still packs in an impressive spec sheet and camera module.
The front of the R1 is dominated by a 5-inch 720p IPS display that gives it a pixel density of 294. Internally, the R1 is powered by a quad-core Mediatek processor clocked at 1.3GHz and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 16GB of on-board storage and a 2140mAh non-removable battery, inside a 7.1mm thin body.
On the software front, the R1 runs on the latest version of Color OS from Oppo, which itself is based on top of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The highlight of the R1 is its 8MP F/2.0 camera at the back. Oppo promises that the R1 will provide excellent pictures in night time. Whether this statement is true or not can only be known once the initial reviews of the handset are out.
The R1 can already be purchased from Oppo’s store for $410 or ¥ 2498.00.
