At CES 2016, Oppo unveiled its new ‘F’ mid-range lineup of smartphones that focus on camera quality. The company did not announce any new handset back then though, but promised it will soon do so.
Now, while Oppo still has not officially announced the first handset in its ‘F’ lineup of smartphones, it has put the F1 on pre-order in Vietnam. The pre-order reveals the full specifications of the Oppo F1, which includes a 5-inch 720p display protected by a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass, a Snapdragon 616 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, an Adreno 405 GPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a microSD card slot. The phone also packs dual-SIM functionality and a 2500mAh battery.
The rear of the F1 houses a 13MP sensor with an F/2.2 aperture, while the front houses an 8MP sensor with an F/2.0 aperture. The rear camera is aided by an LED flash and comes with software features like Beautify 3.0 and live color filters. Since Oppo has boasted about the camera performance of its F range of smartphones, it will be interesting to see how the F1 performs in this department.
On the software front, the F1 runs on Oppo’s Color 2.1 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is disappointing to see Oppo launch smartphones running Lollipop, especially since Marshmallow has been out for a few months now.
The Oppo F1 is already up for pre-order in Vietnam for VND 6,490,000 (~295$), with the device being available from January 21. The handset is also expected to be unveiled in India on January 28th.
