OPPO today announced that they have sold over 7 million units of the OPPO F1 Plus within three months. The handset was launched in March this year, and is sold as the OPPO R9 in China.
This means that OPPO sold 1 F1 Plus unit every 1 second since its launch in March. The selfie-focused device features a 16MP shooter at its front, though the rest of its specs are relatively unremarkable and include a Helio P10 chipset, 4GB RAM, and a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display.
“We are very excited with the performance of OPPO F1 Plus. Our focus on camera technology and photography-focused F series has resulted in excellent results for the brand — first with OPPO F1 becoming the best-selling model and now OPPO F1 Plus recording great sales,” Sky Li, OPPO Global VP, said.
OPPO’s dramatic growth has surprised many OEMs and industry experts, especially since the company hardly has any presence outside of Asia. However, the company’s VP for the Domestic Markets, Mr Alen Wu, believes that it is OPPO’s innovation in design and attention to detail are the key reasons behind its growth.
OPPO first surprised everyone by becoming the fourth largest smartphone maker in the world last year. The company has been expanding its retail presence and marketing heavily to push its product in the limelight over its competitors.
In our review of the OPPO R9, we found the handset to feature decent build quality, but found it lacking in the camera department.
