OnePlus One battery explodes

Unfortunately, there are far too many reports of people’s devices exploding, or otherwise burning in some way or another, in unexpected ways. In July of last year, a Galaxy S III exploded and it wasn’t even recognizable as a phone afterwards. Now, a new story has popped up, this time including a far newer device.

According to a post published within the OnePlus One forums from user MiYzu, the OnePlus One was in their back pocket when it just randomly exploded. The poster says that there wasn’t any kind of overheating happening, and no kind of physical force or pressure was applied to the handset to make it spontaneously combust as it did. What’s more, the OnePlus One, as noted by Android Police uses a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery, which should make it even harder for external forces to cause any kinds of damage.

Unfortunately, while these events are few and far between, they do still happen. It’s just a reminder that we’ve got little bundles of technology inside our pockets. Have you ever had a problem like this happen to you?
