OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei today took to Twitter to posh design sketches of a circular smartwatch that the company was planning on launching in 2015. However, despite finalising on the design of the smartwatch, the company ultimately decided to scrap the product.
Instead, it decided to focus on high-end smartphones as the market is very cruel and unforgiving, especially for a new player like OnePlus.

The sketch posted reveals that the OnePlus’ smartwatch would have featured a removable module to make swapping bands easier. Remember that what you see above are just the final design sketches of the smartwatch, and it is entirely possible that the actual product would have looked completely different due to various production and technological issues.
Ultimately though, OnePlus’ decision to ditch the smartwatch and focus solely on their high-end smartphone seems to have definitely paid off with the OnePlus 3. While costlier than its predecessors, the OnePlus 3 offers great bang for its buck and is easily the best smartphone available inside $400.
What do you think about OnePlus’ smartwatch that was never meant to be? Impressive? Would you have purchased a smartwatch from the company if it would have been as impressive as the OnePlus 3 is for its price?
