OnePlus CEO Pete Lau today confirmed that the company’s upcoming flagship — the OnePlus 7 series — will make use of UFS 3.0 NAND. This means that the phones will offer notably faster I/O performance than other flagships in the market.

This will also make the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro the first smartphones in the market to launch with UFS 3.0 NAND. The Galaxy Fold was the first smartphone announced by Samsung with UFS 3.0, though due to screen reliability issues, the release date of the device was pushed back.

What’s commendable is that OnePlus is using UFS 3.0 NAND for the OnePlus 7 as well as the OnePlus 7 Pro. The faster NAND means that the OnePlus 7 series will be faster than other flagships sporting similar specs in day-to-day tasks like opening apps, switching between heavy games, and more. It will also ensure that despite heavy load, the OnePlus 7 will always remain fast and smooth.

OnePlus has always focused on speed and smoothness with its devices so it is not surprising to see the company going with faster UFS 3.0 NAND on its 2019 devices. It is a bit ironic to see OnePlus be the first company to launch the world’s first smartphone with UFS 3.0 NAND. This is because the company will be sourcing the NANDs from Samsung which went with UFS 2.1 NAND on its flagship Galaxy S10 series.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is definitely shaping up to be an impressive smartphone. Apart from UFS 3.0 NAND, it will also come with a 90Hz AMOLED display, a pop-up selfie camera, triple rear cameras, and WarpCharge 30.
