OnePlus 7 leak

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature 5G connectivity and come with a major display upgrade. Leaks have already confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a 2K Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

With the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus will finally be jumping into the true flagship territory and take on the likes of the iPhone XS and the Galaxy S10 series. As per the company’s CEO, OnePlus has spent three times more on the display than any of the previous OnePlus phones.

While plenty of flagship smartphones in the market come with a 2K Super AMOLED panel, they all have a 60Hz refresh rate. With a 90Hz refresh rate, the OnePlus 7 Pro will feel smoother to use than its competitors. The iPad Pro is the only other notable device in the market to use a higher (120Hz) refresh rate display. In the Android world, the Razer Phone and the ASUS ROG Phone have also launched with display panels having a refresh rate of 90Hz or higher.

According to Lau, OnePlus is spending three times as much on its display this year than on previous models, expecting this new panel to “redefine fast and smooth” and set a new benchmark for mobile displays. “The first time I saw it myself,” the CEO says, “I was stunned.” Other than promising that the OnePlus 7 Pro display will be “super-smooth and very crisp,” OnePlus wouldn’t elaborate on the underlying specs.

The new OnePlus 7 will also be more expensive than the OnePlus 6T before it. OnePlus has been steadily increasing the prices of its smartphones with every new iteration and the same trend is going to continue this year.

As for 5G connectivity, OnePlus is not hyping it much. The company realizes that 5G networks are still in nascent stages and that there’s still a long way to go here. It will be interesting to see if the OnePlus 7 Pro launches with 5G connectivity in non-5G markets as well.
