OnePlus today announced that it will be launching the OnePlus 6T on October 30th at an event in New York City. There were rumors of the handset being unveiled on October 17th but the official announcement from OnePlus puts those rumors to rest.
The OnePlus 6T is going to be a modest upgrade over the OnePlus 6 which was launched less than six months ago. The former will sport the same internals, with most improvements being made to its design. The 6T will switch to a teardrop notch display at the front and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
OnePlus has also confirmed that it will be ditching the headphone jack from the device, though it will bundle a dongle with it to make up for this inconvenient change. This will allow the company to include a bigger battery on the OnePlus which rumors point to a 3,700mAh one. The device will continue to lack wireless charging. And while there’s no confirmation of an IP certification, the water-resistance ability of the device will also be improved.
Sadly, OnePlus is not expected to make any improvements to the camera whatsoever which might disappoint many.
The OnePlus 6T will likely cost the same as OnePlus 6 or a wee bit higher than it. OnePlus has been steadily increasing the prices of its devices with every new revision, though with stiff competition from Xiaomi’s Poco F1, the company might have to revisit the strategy now.
For its fans in India, OnePlus will be selling launch invites for Rs 999 which will allow them to attend the event and also make them eligible to get free OnePlus merchandise. As for the event, it is scheduled to start at 11AM EDT in New York.
