When the OnePlus 5T launched, it was available only in Midnight Black. Since then, the handset has seen special edition colors in certain regions, including Lava Red in China and Star Wars-themed white in India. But now there is one additional color unveiled for a wider audience.
Today, OnePlus officially announced the Limited Edition OnePlus 5T Sandstone White, which features a brand new rear cover that brings back the familiar sandstone color scheme, along with a new textured back. Yes, it’s a similar shade to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi-themed handset that launched in India last year, but the texture itself is different, which should help it make the new model its own thing.
It also boasts 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage.
OnePlus has confirmed the handset will be available through OnePlus.net in the United States, Europe, and in the United Kingdom. It will go on sale on the company’s website at 10:00 AM ET/10:00 AM GMT/10:00 AM CET on January 9. It will be priced at “£499 in the UK, €559 in the rest of Europe, and $559 in the US.”
Here’s how OnePlus touts the creation of the Sandstone OnePlus 5T, which is a pretty detailed process:
“To achieve the tactile Sandstone finish on the metal chassis of the OnePlus 5T Sandstone White, our engineers applied four high-precision processes. First, we apply a primer to safeguard the metal body. Next, we use spraying & baking to apply color temperature layer to ensure the white tones are balanced and natural, meantime has the function of shielding the bottom layer aluminum alloy. Once this layer has been applied, a blend of natural minerals and white oil paint is covered to the surface of the second layer, lending the device its stunning blend of white and gray tones and signature sandstone feel. Finally, UV layer is used to refine the texture of the phone and ensure hardness and durability. Taking a total of 75 minutes per phone, these high-precision, low yield processes make the body of the OnePlus 5T Sandstone White the most expensive we have ever produced.”
