In a confirmation that should not surprise anyone, OnePlus founder Pete Lau today confirmed on Twitter that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will be upgraded to Android O. The CEO did not provide any timeframe as to when the handset will be getting the update though.
Considering the OnePlus 3 is just nearing its first anniversary and the OnePlus 3T is only six months old, both phones getting the Android O update should not be surprising.
A lot of you have been asking, so I'm proud to say Android O will come to OnePlus 3 and 3T.

However, looking at the poor track record of the company when it comes to updating its older handsets to the latest version of Android, this piece of news should come as a relief for many. Support for the OnePlus X was killed by the company six months after its release and it only got the Marshmallow update. Similarly, the company has continued to keep OnePlus 2 owners in the dark as to whether the handset will get the Nougat update or not.
Android O will be formally released by Google to AOSP and other OEMs in Q3 of this year. So ideally, we should see the update land on the OnePlus 3 and 3T at the end of this year or early next year.
With the OnePlus 3, the Never Settle has managed to turn a new leaf in its software update strategy. Not only was the OnePlus 3 among the first handsets to get the Android Nougat update, it also remains among the very few handsets in the market right now that is running Android 7.1.1. Here’s hoping that OnePlus continues to roll out updates to the OnePlus 3/3T on a priority basis even after the release of the OnePlus 5.
