The OnePlus 2 had been touted as the flagship killer, with the ability to take on top-of-the-line devices from companies such as Samsung, Sony and HTC. It considered the Galaxy S6 as it’s greatest nemesis and promised to deliver equal performance at half the price. Yet until today, the device’s software did not seem ready to update itself to Android Marshmallow and be on par with the flagships it would reportedly annihilate.

The OnePlus user forum, announced today, that the over-the-air Oxygen OS 3.0.2 (built atop Android Marshmallow 6.0.1) is ready to make its roll-out to users and will be available within the next 48 hours.

The final release is not dissimilar from the two beta variants launched earlier and is basically a Marshmallow base with a few tweaks to the software to make it more in line with the OnePlus 2 and some of its partner software’s requirements.

• New OnePlus Camera UI and AF optimization

• Shelf UX has been improved. You can now long press to edit a board
• You can now lock apps in recents so they won’t be cleared away. We’ve also added clear process in addition to clear-all for those of you who want a better control of background processes
• Network operator selection will now stick to your choice so you don’t accidentally roam onto unintended networks
• Swiftkey update to 6.3.3

The update would reach users of the stock software by Tuesday, however users will have to reset their fingerprint authentication as the cache will be wiped-out during the update. Apart from this minor inconvenience, it is nice to see that unlike most Android manufacturers/carriers, OnePlus is rolling out the update for all users in a short window although the update itself took a long time to be launched. Whether this works as a longterm strategy that gives it an edge over its competitors is yet to be seen.
