OnePlus today announced that their upcoming smartphone — the OnePlus 2 — will come with “one of the latest and most advanced fingerprint sensors out there.”
Android devices have traditionally always had fingerprint scanners that were always a step behind Apple’s Touch ID in terms of ease of use and performance. This year though, things have changed with Samsung and even HTC integrating a fingerprint scanner on their flagship handsets that is as good as Touch ID on the iPhone — if not better.
Pete, the co-founder of OnePlus, claims in the announcement that the fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 2 has been “done right” as it is refined and lighting quick. It also boasts that unlocking the phone using the fingerprint scanner will be faster than Touch ID. The fingerprint scanner on the handset will be able to store up to five fingerprints, and a quick tap on it will take you directly to your homescreen.
Since the OnePlus 2 is unlikely to come with a physical home button, it is likely that we will see OnePlus integrate the fingerprint scanner into the back of the handset.
OnePlus is scheduled to unveil the OnePlus 2 in a unique VR-ready environment on July 27th.
