The commercialization of CyanogenMod came as a surprise to all. Some were excited about their favorite ROM going commercial and bigger, and some, including members of the CM team who were kept in the dark about this, felt cheated because of the licensing issue that followed.
XplodWild, the man behind Focal and an ex-CyanogenMod team member, has announced at the Big Android BBQ that he and other highly talented Android developers like Chainfire (SuperSu developer), Dees_troy (TWRP developer), Pulser, Entropy and Andrew are working together on OmniROM.
OmniROM aims to bring the true essence of custom ROMs back with focus on new features, innovation, community support and transparency. The ROM is going to be Free^3 – Free to Use, Free to Modify and Free to Share.
What makes OmniROM stand out from the rest is its unique feature list, which are as follows -:
-
Flippable Quick Settings
-
Roadrunner mode
-
Multi-window(!)
-
Daydream enhancements
-
Integrated Performance Control
-
Multi-workspace
-
Color-changeable, 3D depth Phase Beam
-
And a bunch more
Right now, OmniROM only supports the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012/2013 models), Nexus 10, and the Xperia Z with support for more devices coming down the line. The download link of the ROM is not yet live, but the sources should go live within the next few hours, if you feel like building the ROM for your device.
You can find more information about OmniROM on their official website and here.
