Recent rumors suggested that Nokia might get back to the smartphone market as soon as its contract with Microsoft allowed it to do, which was sometime in 2016. These rumors have now been seemingly confirmed by Mike Wang, President of Nokia China.
A report from Chinese website SCDaily claims that Nokia China’s president, Mike Wang, has himself confirmed that the company will get back to the smartphone market in 2016. More importantly though, these smartphones will be running on Android and not Windows Phone OS.
The company will be using its factories located in Sichuan to manufacture the handset, and will also be shifting its R&D centre to the same city in China. The report states that Wang did not reveal any other details about Nokia re-entering the smartphone market once again.
It is entirely possible that Nokia will get back to the smartphone market with some low-end Android handsets meant for developing markets like China, India and other countries in Asia. After all, the company has in the past launched some low-end handsets running a forked version of Android with its own app store.
