Nvidia today announced that it is recalling certain units of its 8-inch SHIELD tablet that were sold between July 2015 and 2015 due to a fire hazard.

The company states in its press release that due that the battery in the affected SHIELD tablet units can overheat thereby posing a fire hazard. To check whether your SHIELD tablet is affected or not, simply follow the steps below, but before that make sure that the tablet is running the very latest software from Nvidia, which was rolled out in early July.

Step 1: Head over to Settings -> About Tablet -> Status.

Step 2: Under ‘Battery’ in Status, you will find the variant of  your battery list: Y01 or B01.

Step 3: If it is B01, then you don’t need to send your tablet to Nvidia for a replacement. However, if it is Y01, you SHIELD tablet has a faulty battery and needs to be replaced.
