Nova launcher for Android is, arguably, one of the best launcher apps available for the platform. With today’s update to v3.2, the developer has jumped to the Material Design bandwagon by adding a Lollipop theme along with new Lollipop inspired animations to it.

The update introduces a new ‘Circle’ folder animation as seen on the updated developer preview of Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Nexus 5 and 7. While the animation was only restricted to Android 4.3+ devices from Google side, Nova launcher’s developer — Kevin — was able to bring it to all Android 4.1+ devices.

Check out the full change log below:

  • Lollipop Circle Folder Animation (Settings – Folder – Transition Animation)
  • Lollipop Scroll indicator (Settings – Desktop – Scroll Indicator)
  • Lollipop Icon Theme for Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Downloads, Email, Dialer, Settings and SMS (Settings –
  • Look Feel – Icon Theme)
  • Preview of scroll effects in Settings
  • Optimizations and fixes

While Google’s app drawer animation is similar to its ‘circle’ folder animation, it works because the company dropped the transparent app drawer background in favour of a solid white one. The developer is looking into ways to add the animation to Nova launcher without removing customisation options like transparent backgrounds for the app drawer.

The update is already live on the Play Store for you to download.
