Underneath Nokia’s hybrid Asha-Windows skin, the Nokia X runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, even though it does not act like one. However, since the device comes with an unlocked bootloader, it was just a matter of time and hard work before some source built ROMs started popping up for the handset.
Now, thanks to the hard work of developer dhacker29, the Nokia X has received its first CAF (Code Aurora Forums) based Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM. Since the ROM is CAF based, it also comes with all the Qualcomm specific enhancements and optimizations available for that particular chipset, which should provide a smoother experience.
For its first build, the ROM is surprisingly pretty stable with all the core functionalities like Bluetooth, Camera, FM Radio, Dual-SIM functionality, Media playback and MTP working right out of the box. Since the Nokia X only comes with a single back button for navigation, the developer has provided the ROMs in two flavours — one with on-screen navigation bars and the other without it.
As usual, installing the ROM requires root access with a custom recovery installed on your X. If you meet the requirements, then head over to this XDA thread for the download link and installation instructions.
