Nokia today launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition, Nokia 6 (2018), and the Nokia 7 Plus in India. The Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition and the Nokia 7 Plus were first unveiled by the company at MWC 2018 in February.

Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition

The Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition is a slight refresh of the Nokia 8 which HMD Global launched in the country last month. While it features the same internals as the Nokia 8, it comes with its fair share of improvements to design and camera.

The first major improvement in terms of design is the switch to a 5.5-inch curved P-OLED display which is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. Its still a 16:9 panel, but thanks to the reduced top and bottom chin and the curved edges, the phone looks stunning. The small bezels mean that the Nokia 8 Sirocco edition does not feature capacitive navigation buttons and the fingerprint scanner has also been moved to the rear. It is also IP67 certified thereby making it dust and water-resistant. The glass back at the rear also allows HMD Global to include wireless charging on the Nokia 8 Sirocco edition.

Coming to the camera, the Sirocco edition of Nokia 8 features a dual-camera setup at its rear with Zeiss branding. The primary 12MP sensor features a f/1.75 aperture, while the secondary 12MP telephoto lens features a f/2.6 aperture. A 5MP selfie camera is found at the front of the device. Keeping with the trend, the device also has Face Unlock and an AI-powered camera app which now has a manual mode as well.

Other specs of the Nokia 8 Sirocco edition include a 3260mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support, Wi-Fi ac, no headphone jack, a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB RAM, and 128GB of storage. Out of the box, the handset will run on Android 8.0 Oreo and carry the Android One branding which means it will receive speedy OS and security updates from HMD Global.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco edition will be available from April 30 for Rs 49,999. It will be available online through Flipkart.

    Nokia 7 Plus

The Nokia 8 Sirocco Edition might be the company’s flagship phone in India for the first half of 2018. But its the Nokia 7 Plus which will likely appeal to the masses. The mid-range premium handset features a 6-inch FHD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display that can reach brightness levels of up to 500 nits. The phone is made from Series 6000 aluminum with a coating on top of it that gives it a ceramic-like feel.

Powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset, the Nokia 7 Plus sports 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Like the Nokia 8 Sirocco edition, the 7 Plus features a primary 12MP f/1.75 aperture shooter with 1.4um large pixels. Its secondary shooter is a 13MP f/2.6 telephoto lens, and this camera set up is paired with a dual-LED flash. A 16MP selfie shooter is also present at the front. Other specs of the handset include a massive 3800mAh battery, fingerprint scanner at the rear, headphone jack, Wi-Fi ac, microSD card slot, USB-C connectivity, Nokia OZO audio support with three microphones, and Bluetooth 5.0.

The camera app has been upgraded on the handset with a new Pro mode which provides you with manual control over various camera aspects like ISO, shutter speed, exposure, and more.

Running Android 8.1 Oreo, the Nokia 7 Plus features Android One branding which means it will be at the forefront of software and security updates from Nokia and Google. The handset will be available from April 30 from Rs 25,999. It will be available online through Amazon.

In addition to the two handsets, Nokia also launched the 2018 edition of the Nokia 6 and the Nokia 1.

The Nokia 1 is a low-end handset running Android Go Oreo edition. This means that it gains access to Go edition of apps and services from Google which are meant to offer a great user experience on low-end devices with limited resources. The handset is already available through offline channels in India for Rs 5,499.

As for the Nokia 6 (2018), it now features an even improved build quality and upgraded internals. The handset is now powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 chip and packs 4GB RAM. Other specs include quick charge support, LTE, USB-C connectivity, and more.

The camera has also been improved and features Zeiss optics. Thanks to the upgraded internals, the Nokia 6 (2018) has Bothie support meaning you can take photos from the front and rear camera at the same time. The Nokia 6 (2018) goes on sale in India from April 6. It will be available for Rs 16,999.
