Nintendo today announced that it is working on bringing its massively popular Mario Kart game series to mobile devices. The game is currently in testing and will be released by March 2019. Yep, that’s a wait of more than a year we are talking about here.
Nintendo has so far launched a number of games for iOS and Android like Miitomo, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Super Mario Run. Apart from Miitomo, all the other games launched by the company have met with success. However, the company has shied away from bringing its popular series of games like Mario Kart and Zelda to smartphones in a bid to possibly ensure that sales of its handheld game consoles — the Nintendo Switch — are not cannibalized.

The new Mario Kart game for mobile devices will be known as ‘Mario Kart Tour.’ Nintendo has not revealed any other details about the game so far. It is unclear if the game will be free-to-play or will be a paid download. And looking at Nintendo’s other mobile games released so far, don’t expect the company to bring the full Mario Kart experience to smartphones.
Mario Kart on Nintendo’s game consoles is all about kart racing using popular characters from Mario’s world. The game is pretty fun to play with your friends so it will be interesting to see if Mario Kart Tour will include some kind of multiplayer aspect or not.
