Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer is looking forward to releasing Xbox games on the Nintendo Switch 2. The console boss confirmed these plans during a January 25, 2025, interview on the Gamertag Radio podcast.

“I want everybody to be able to play on Xbox, and it does mean more of our games shipping on more platforms, not just PlayStation,” Spencer said.

The possibility hinges on Switch 2’s rumored hardware upgrades, allowing it to support demanding games previously exclusive to more powerful systems. The Switch 2, announced on January 16, is speculated to rival the PS4 Pro in performance. This power boost could allow ports of titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Starfield a leap from its predecessor.

Spencer also praised Nintendo’s innovation, revealing he personally congratulated CEO Shuntaro Furukawa after the Switch 2’s reveal. “Who would ever bet against the success of that team? They are masterful in what they do,” he remarked. He also lauded Nintendo as an “important part of this industry.”

Third-party publishers like Ubisoft and Konami are also reportedly preparing Switch 2 ports of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Metal Gear Solid Delta. Insider leaks suggest Diablo 4 and Fallout 4 may also arrive on the platform.

Microsoft’s 10-year agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms, signed in 2023, adds further weight to the collaboration. While Spencer hinted at an Xbox handheld device in development, he stressed it wouldn’t be released for “years.”

Furthermore, Windows Central previously reported rumors that Microsoft plans to make most Xbox games available on Switch 2. That’s provided the system can handle them technically.

Spencer declined to confirm specifics but reiterated Xbox’s “game-first not platform-first” stance. While the company continues developing its gaming hardware, Spencer says that reaching a wider audience takes priority over platform exclusivity.

“We’re not gonna put walls up around where people can engage with the great games our studios are building,” he explained. “I just think that should be an expectation for all of us: That the games we invest in are able to be played on any screen that we want to play them on.”

For now, the focus remains on Switch 2, with many speculating about its gimmicks and potential launch titles.
