Ever since the announcement of the new Moto X, it’s been known that the device will launch on both AT&T and Verizon, as well as be offered up as an unlocked device for $499 later this year. A new report claims that the unlocked variant will have a bit of a naming scheme to help it stand out.

According to the report published on September 12 by The Verge, Motorola has christened the new Moto X unlocked variant the “Pure Edition.” This is, more than likely, in a step to make sure that the unlocked option is easily discernible versus the carrier-locked options, to better help customers make a decision about their upcoming purchase.

The differentiation is important in case someone does want that “pure” experience with their mobile device, and not necessarily have to be wrapped up in the carrier’s pre-loaded applications on the handset, or have to suffer through the notoriously long waiting period for carrier-approvied software updates.

Recently, it was revealed that Verizon would not be offering a Developer Edition of the new Moto X.
