The all new HTC One was just announced a couple of hours ago, but HTC didn’t let out any details about the device’s capability in terms of water-resistance. It was fair to assume that the phone couldn’t withstand water damage, like most devices without an IP rating or certification. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though.

A new video by the folks as TechSmartt clearly shows the new HTC One being submerged for over 90 minutes, remaining functional under water and after being taken out. The video isn’t continuously shot because the owner had some camera problems, but you can see the phone’s clock changing while it was submerged, indicating that the One was still functional.

Our best guess is that the One’s metallic design and finish allow for little gaps, essentially rendering most of the device water-resistant. The headphone jack and other ports might also be sealed enough to not allow a lot of water in and hence avoid damage to the processor and screen and memory.

However, the video doesn’t show whether the speaker, microphone, or headphone jack were still fully functional or not after the water submersion. It’s an interesting find nonetheless because it proves that the new HTC One should easily hold against water splashes, rain, and other short water exposures.
