Why trust Greenbot
Tony Fadell, the man credited with helping Apple create the iPod and founder of Nest Labs, has revealed that he volunteered to rescue Google Glass. The device was pulled by Google back in January, and Fadell has been leading development of a second model ever since.
Despite early reports that suggested Google had given up on Glass, the company has repeatedly stressed that a new model is on the way. Fadell has been tasked with leading that project, and according to him, it was entirely his choice.
“It wasn’t handed to me and said, ‘Tony clean it up,'” Fadell told the BBC, “I offered. I remember what it was like when we did the iPod and the iPhone. I think this can be that important, but it’s going to take time to get it right.”
What’s unclear is whether Fadell approached Google executives and asked to reinvent the device before or after it was taken off the market. Details surrounding the new device itself are just as ambiguous at this point.
According to recent rumors, however, a Google Glass “Enterprise Edition” is on the way with a bigger display, better battery life, and a faster processor. But unlike the original model, it’s thought to be exclusively designed for Glass for Work partners, and not general consumers.
