Moto E

The Moto E comes with only 4GB of internal storage aided by a microSD card slot. After you remove the space taken up by the OS and other pre-installed apps, users are only left with 2.17GB of internal storage, which is barely sufficient for all the heavy app and game installs.

Thankfully, the Moto E comes with a microSD card slot, which allows users to move some apps to the SD card thereby freeing up internal storage.

Before you get all excited though, keep in mind that only certain apps can be moved to SD cards, which should be enabled by third party developers. Also, only the app related data is moved to the external storage and not the APK itself.

For obvious reasons, make sure to insert the microSD card on your Moto E before you head over to the steps below.

Step 1: Head over to Settings -> Apps. Swipe to the On SD Card tab, where all the apps that can be transferred to the SD card are listed.

Step 2: To move a specific app to the SD card, tap its name and then select the Move to SD card option. The process can take nearly a minute or more, depending on the size of the app.

If you head back to the Apps menu now, you will notice that all the apps that you have moved to the SD card will have a tick beside their name.

Moving app data and media to the external storage somewhat helps in alleviating the storage issue on the Moto E. Since the APK files are still installed on the internal storage, the more apps you install, the lesser will be your free internal storage space.

However, considering that Motorola has targeted the Moto E towards first time smartphone buyers, I doubt many of them would be complaining about running out of storage space because of installing too many apps.
