Motorola said it was going to do a better job updating its phone, and it looks like the manufacturer is making good on its promise. Starting today, the carrier announced that is is rolling out a surprise Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Motorola G. Motorola originally promised to deliver KitKat in early 2014, so the manufacturer is getting a welcomed head start. The update will land first on unlocked Moto G handsets that were bought directly from Motorola’s US webstore or from Amazon. Phones that were purchased through a carrier or in a different geographic region outside the US will receive the update “soon”. No official timetable was given for these other updates.
The Moto G is not the only Motorola handset getting an update this week. Verizon Wireless also pushed out a KitKat update for the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and the DROID mini. This update will also land on additional carrier and regions soon.
