Many smartphone OEMs were favoring an online-only sales approach in India over the last couple of years but most of them soon realised that to attract new consumers, they will have to set up physical retail stores. After Xiaomi, Moto has learned the same lesson as the company is now planning to expand its presence in India by setting up Moto Hubs.
A fancy name for your traditional retail store, Motorola plans on opening six Moto Hubs in India. They will allow customers to experience all the products in Moto’s portfolio in a very “open, fun, and very uniquely Motorola” way.
For now, Motorola is setting up six Moto Hubs in popular locations in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai:
- Great India Place, Noida
- Logix Mall, Noida
- Shipra Mall, Indirapuram
- Xperia Mall, Dombivali, Mumbai
- Korum Mall, Thane, Mumbai
- Viviana Mall, Thane, Mumbai
Motorola also promises to open 50 Moto Hubs by the end of this year across top tier cities and locations that receive heavy footfall. In addition to having its entire range of smartphones on display, these Moto Hubs will also have accessories like headphones, Moto Mods, cases etc.
Customers will also be able to purchase handsets through these Moto Hubs. As a way to attract footfall to its Hubs, Motorola will be offering free accessories to customers who purchase a Moto E, Moto C, or Moto G series handset. It will also be offering a 50 percent discount on Moto Mods for customers who purchase a Moto Z2 Play.
Motorola is not the first company to decide on opening physical stores in India. Earlier this year, Xiaomi opened its first Mi Home in Bengaluru, with the company planning on opening a few more by the end of this year. While an online-only sales approach has worked well for companies, they have realised that to further fuel their growth, they will have to open physical stores to help create awareness among not so tech savvy consumers.
