2016 Moto X leak

Motorola made some changes to its Moto G lineup, and now evidence is mounting that a bigger change is coming for the company’s flagship family of devices.

Earlier this month a report surfaced that suggested Motorola was planning on dropping the Moto X brand from its flagship of devices, instead going with a one letter difference: Moto Z. Specifically, the two main flagships this year are expected to be the Moto Z Play and the Moto Z Style, and the DROID lineup from Verizon Wireless could see something akin to “Moto Z Play Droid Edition.”

Now, following that report, Motorola has gone ahead and filed for a trademark of the “Moto Z” brand. Unfortunately, as these trademark filings usually do, there isn’t much to go on here, other than the “Motorola Trademark Holdings” is the name behind filing for the trademark, and that it covers “Mobile phones, smartphones and accessories therefor, namely battery chargers and adapters.”

So, not an official statement that the Moto Z is the next big name from the Lenovo-owned company, but it does seem like a pretty good bet at this point.
