Besides launching the Droid Turbo 2, Motorola and Verizon also announced the Droid Maxx 2 — which is essentially a rebranded version of the Moto X Play. The handset features a large 5.5-inch 1080p display, and features a water-repellent coating.
The internal hardware of the Droid Maxx 2 is also essentially the same as the Moto X Play: a Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, an Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage space, a microSD card slot, and a huge 3,630mAh battery. There is also a 21MP rear shooter on the handset with PDAF and dual-LED CCT flash and a 5MP shooter on the front.
Unlike the Droid Turbo 2, the Droid Maxx 2 does not feature Moto Maker support. However, Motorola is still allowing for limited customisations by offering swappable and colorful Motorola Shells and Flip Shells for the handset.
On the software front, the Maxx 2 comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Motorola’s suite of apps like Moto Voice, Moto Assist, and Moto Display. Like the Droid Turbo 2, the Droid Maxx 2 goes on sale on Verizon’s network from October 29 for $16 per month.
